Canadiens 6, Penguins 5 - the REAL review

Okay, now that I have some time and my photos are uploaded, here is the review of the game:

First off, my general thoughts are that this is a game that the Pens probably should have won. They showed great character throughout the night. They came back from two goal defecits a few times. They outshot the Habs, but they couldn't get over the hump.

I feel compelled to comment on Sheldon Souray - I saw at least two times right in front of me when he finished off a check with the butt end of his stick and fists to the head of one of the Penguins. Malone challenged him to a fight (not one of Ryan's better ideas) and got beat down pretty good. Malone was on the ground, covering his head, and Souray was continuing to hit him in the back of his head! Totally cheap and classless, Mr Souray.

Let's go to some pictures:
Here are a few shots of the Pens during warmups...

Since I refuse to discuss my wife's strange attraction to hockey players (especially the European ones), I'll start with this photo of Crosby and Surovy stretching... just to say "Thanks!" for the nice seats we had (and yes, I did feel kind of dirty snapping a photo like this - the only other people doing so were giggling girls with big hair... and my hair is too short to pretend to fit in!!)

Here's a pic of Ouellet and a few others in warmups...

And one more - this is what Crosby must visualize when he's skating in on a breakaway...

Now, for some shots of some game action (or, more specifically, mostly faceoffs - it's the only time they're moving slowly enough to get a good picture!!)

Here's Welch and Melichar looking in on the play in the Montreal zone...

Here's a faceoff in the defensive zone...

And one at center ice to open the third...

What the heck?

During the game, Kovalev was nice enough to take a penalty, just so he could come and sit in front of us (I didn't have the heart to tell him about The Wife favoring the Euros).

Mr Kovalev, please report to the penalty box...

Please sit calmly with your hands inside the car throughout the ride...

Thank you for riding Take a Penalty and We Score. Please come back again...

Finally, the refs weren't all that great that night. The calls were kind of uneven, to say the least. At times, it looked like the refs were confused.

I know we were supposed to have someone in here...

You go and check by the benches, and I'll wait here...

Why were they checking the benches? Take a look at the scene between periods...

Still don't see why? I'll zoom in for you...

Aha! We have a sabotuer! Into the box with you...

And finally, just to show you the league officials that work the game down on the ice level...

Hope you liked the pictures!

What to say, what to say? I'll start with the game. Weird one, wasn't it? So much back and forth. But, hey, I'll take it. Better than losing by a lot. And, of course, them dumb refs. Can they ever just do their jobs? And they always get in the way--one of my pet peeves.
Nice pics. I like the one of Kovie in the box. Oh, and the "mighty mites" too.

P.S. I got my question answered on the Q&A w/ Dave Molinari this past week. Check it out, check it out! And what you read is not what he emailed me back. He definitely had a tone in the email.

Nice photos, Pat. Better seats! It's a different game down there vs. sitting in my customary position (at or near the top).

Strange game indeed but hard to get mad about it. Scored a bunch, fought back.... I thought Fleury only made a couple of tough saves, otherwise he wasn't nearly as sharp as he had been the previous game.

Didn't realize Florida is 9-1-1 in their last 11. I think they've won a ridiculous number of consecutive games at the Igloo, too.

Great pics... I agree that Souray guy is a punk. Malone did take a beating but it was good to see him go for it like that. I mean Souray is a fighter and a tough one at that so big ups to Malone. (By my count Malone is like 0 - 10 for fights. The only one that takes worse beatings is Armstrong.) Either way tho I like to see guys step up like that even if they know a smack down is coming... shows heart and pride in your self and team.

Florida is always a tough team for the Pens to play so I'm relly looking forward to tonights game. I would really like to see Crosby but up 4-5 points... seems like a while since he had a big game.

I'm looking forward to tonight's game - hopefully I get to see some of it... will be a good win if they can pull it off.

ees - which question was yours in the Q&A? I couldn't tell right off the bat...

Will-- 4-5 points thats crazy! Though that would be awesome. I think he's only had one Four point game so far this season. If he did get that many points, we'd win the game for sure. I've notice that when he doesn't get any points; we don't win.

Pat-- It's the first one. the one about Colby.
