PITG Gaming awarded license

This would be filed under "You have got to be kidding me!"

Don Barden's group was awarded the slots license. This is one that no one ever saw coming.

Update: Welcome to everyone from the excellent Casino Journal on the Post-Gazette website. If you like the Penguins, stop back throughout the season. Things are only going to get more interesting from here!

My heart has just sank... unbelievable. Even Lemieux himself had said it's unheard of any government turning down $290 million in private money for a public multipurpose facility...

I am speechless... cannot believe this.

1) We're not surprised in this decision at all. We heard this coming since last week.
2) However, don't fret pens fans, we also hear that the team will NOT be going anywhere! Read below: http://fauxrumors.blogspot.com/2006/12/no-deal-in-pittsburgh.html#links

The politicians are really gonna have to work hard to come up with a plan that is more attractive than what Mario can get elsewhere from other investors. (And what's more attractive than a free arena?)

It's just frustrating when they had an ideal situation with the IOC that was clearly the best plan for the Pens AND the city.
