Pens acquire Gary Roberts

The Pens acquired Gary Roberts from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Noah Welch.

I don't like this one. I don't like giving up a guy like Welch, who has a potentially big upside for a guy like Roberts who will improve the team for about two months.

Having said that, I do like the addition of Roberts. He is a tough winger who can score. He also has tons of experience. He should be able to help smooth out the valleys so that they don't hurt the team as much.

I agree with you, Pat. I really like Roberts here but Welch could have been a corner stone of the Pens D for years if he progressed like most say he will. Roberts is a great rental, but that's all he is, a rental. He does bring in lots of playoff xp so that's huge too.

Will - the only thing I can think of is that Shero, having had a chance to see Welch regularly this year both here and in WBS, didn't like what he saw... so he dealt him

I think that is Shero's privilege - he's done pretty well so far, eh?

Yeah, Welch has some chances to prove himself up here the last few seasons and really showed he was not ready. Shero has made great moves since he first came to the Pens and has continued with the ones today. I'm hoping for another trade for some big d guy for maybe see Malone, Ouellet, etc. We'll see, only 20 min left :)
